Aquaculture

Aquaculture is managed in Poole Harbour under The Poole Harbour Fishery Order 2015 and The Poole Harbour Several Order 2015 Management Plan (2020) - 2023 Review. The Management Plan is reviewed annually.

Poole Harbour Fishery Order 2015

Poole Harbour Fishery Order 2015

The Poole Fishery Order 2015 is a Several Order which severs ground from the public fishery and allows the Southern IFCA to lease ground to leaseholders for the purpose of aquaculture. The Order is granted for a period of 20 years, where the first Tranche (T1) of lease beds were allocated for the term 2015-2020. Following the expiration of the T1 allocations on the 30th June 2020, and a need to reallocate some of the beds due to conservation needs, a second Tranche (T2) of lease bed ground have been allocated for the period 2020-2025.

The Poole Harbour Several Order 2015 Management Plan (2020) - 2023 Review which accompanies The Order, demonstrates how Southern IFCA manage the aquaculture activity within the defined area of Poole Harbour.

PH Biosecurity Plan

PH Biosecurity Plan

Biosecurity in Poole Harbour refers to implementing measures with the aim of preventing the introduction and/or spread of harmful organisms (e.g. viruses, bacteria), and therefore, infectious diseases, to shellfish species within Poole Harbour.

The Poole Harbour Biosecurity Plan is used by Southern IFCA to monitor aquaculture, identify and minimise risks, and record shellfish movement by leaseholders, in order to prevent the spread of viruses, bacteria and disease.
