South Wight Maritime SAC

South Wight Maritime is a dynamic Special Area of Conservation encompassing a large range of different reef types and associated communities. The site includes some of the most important sub-tidal chalk reefs in Britain.
There are three features protected within the SAC:
  • Sea caves
  • Vegetated sea cliffs
  • Reefs 
    • Intertidal rocky shore communities
    • Kelp forest communities
    • Sub-tidal red algae communities
    • Sub-tidal faunal turf communities
    • Stony reef communities
