Chesil and the Fleet EMS

The Chesil and Fleet EMS include a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and a Special Protection Area (SPA). It is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Ramsar site. The site provides protection for a range of internationally important Annex 1 habitats (features) and associated sub-features as well as bird interest features and their supporting habitats, including:
 
  • Lagoons
    • Seagrass
    • Tide-swept communities
    • Sub-tidal coarse sediment
    • Intertidal sediment
    • Shingle spring line
  • Internationally important breeding population of Annex 1 species, Little Tern
 
  • Internationally important population of regularly occurring migratory species, Wigeon
